Mendl's Pâtisserie

Website Design + Coding

Website Design + Coding (HTML, CSS, & a dash of Javascript)

Since Wes Anderson is my favorite director, I designed a five-page site for the iconic Mendl's Pâtisserie, a fictional pastry shop in Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel. In addition to the practical goals of attracting customers and selling pastries, I wanted the site to really solidify the brand identity, so I went for a fairly consistent design for all the pages and used the iconic pale pink pastry boxes with a red border as inspiration for the aesthetic of the site. I aimed to reflect and reinforce the delicate, whimsical, artisanal feel of the brand and its products, which are often accented with pastel colors and quaint details. On the pastries page, I chose images of pastries that I felt matched the pastel aesthetic of the shop and the look of the iconic pastry shown in the film, the courtesan au chocolat. I also used javascript to animate slideshows that would fade from one picture to another to show more than one image for certain pastries and used CSS animations to send a gif of the Mendl's delivery truck across the delivery page.
